MDHAS
Theatre & Film
The Art Society is proud of its Upstairs Playhouse that opened in May 2018 and has a seating capacity for 100 guests. Plays and concerts are held regularly in the theatre with the facilities being available for hire. A recent addition is the movie cinema that promises, through the MDHAS Film Club, to encourage interest in film as an art form.
The Mayday Hills Art Society is a member of the Federation of Victorian Film Societies, Inc. As such, film events organised by MDHAS are open to members only; although members can bring guests. The cost is a $5 donation to the society. Tea, coffee, drinks and snacks are available for purchase.
RSVPs essential for each screening.

CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?
Can You Ever Forgive Me? is a 2018 American biographical film based on the 2008 confessional memoir of the same name by Lee Israel. Melissa McCarthy stars as Israel, and the story follows her attempts to revitalise her failing writing career by forging letters from deceased authors and playwrights.
The film also features Richard E. Grant, Dolly Wells, Jane Curtin, Anna Deavere Smith, Stephen Spinella, and Ben Falcone in supporting roles. Israel took the title from an apologetic line in a letter in which she posed as Dorothy Parker. Nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively, at the 91st Academy Awards, the 76th Golden Globe Awards, and the 72nd British Academy Film Awards, among other ceremonies. Holofcener and Whitty were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and won the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
